Medical Coder | Freelance, Remote Work  

A medical coder is responsible for assigning the correct code to describe the type of service a patient will receive. They ensure that the codes are applied correctly during the medical billing process, which includes removing the information from documentation, assigning the appropriate codes, and creating a claim to be paid by insurance carriers.

Can work in US time zone | 40 hours/week

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Must know EHR Medical Billing Support (EPIC),3M, and 3M/360, which is a computer-assisted coding (CAC NPL) that generates codes.
• Focus on inpatients (trauma levels 1 and 2) such as those getting treatments for cancer, nervous system disorders, car accidents, and amputations.
• AHIMA-certified Medical Coder or AHIMA-certified Nurse who has medical coding experience in medical surgery such as oncology or surgery for regular comorbidities like hypertension and diabetes.
• Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual.
• Follow up with the healthcare provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear.
• Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy.

• Strong English verbal and written communication skills
• Detail-oriented, analytical,and inquisitive
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Extremely organized
• Has strong time management skills
• Associate's Degree in Medical Coding or successful completion of a certification program
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology

Basic WFH Equipment Requirements:

• Laptop or desktop computer that can run web browsing, spreadsheet, and communication software
• Intel i3 or AMD Ryzen 1300 processor (or equivalent)
• 4GB RAM
• Stable internet connection (preferably at least 5Mbps)
• Headset for video calls
