Barista  

You’ll be working as a Barista in a company-owned coffee shop. The job mainly involves preparing and serving coffee and other drinks from Mondays to Saturdays.

The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills in English and should be able to work independently. The ideal barista would think of ways to add value to the job including:

• Thinking of new flavors for shakes or milk teas
• Experimenting with different coffee mixes (cold and hot)
• Willingness to try out latte art, cold brewing, drip coffee, etc.

The Barista should also be a good team player and listen to instructions or directions from line supervisors effectively as well as be responsible for the equipment in the coffee shop and be accountable for the shifts/schedule given to them.

Job responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Prepare and serve drinks (for around 70+ people)
• Shop for goods and supplies (while some will be delivered but coordination still required)
• Maintain and clean the coffee shop
• Record all inventory, budgeting, and shrinkage
• General ability to prepare coffee, shake, smoothie, frappe, tea

Skills and experience required:

• College-level or culinary school
• Must have coffee shop/barista experience of at least one year, i.e. hands-on experience in preparing coffee drinks and operating equipment and maintenance of these
• Should have demonstrable knowledge in creating lattes, cappuccinos, flat white, etc. and must be prepared in creating drinks without following the same technique or recipe

Preferred:

• Worked in an international setting or at least a cafe in a tourist area where there is frequent interaction with foreigners
• Good memory for individual’s preferences for recurring orders (usuals)
• Knowledge in baking (cookies, cakes, croissants, macarons, etc) are an added bonus
• Certificates for barista training or attendance certificates for contests joined will be treated favorably
• Part of the recruitment process is a hands-on technical assessment of your brewing skills where a panel would test your coffee concoctions. Please prepare 1 signature coffee drink should you decide to apply.
