Job Description
Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of the Section Head, the Library Assistant I of the Circulation Section provides administrative, and library user/client support to the Section. The Library Assistant I monitors the collection/stack maintenance quality and performs minor repairs to damaged library materials.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
I. Collection Maintenance and Preservation
- Sorts and Shelf-reads library materials in the Circulation Section to ensure adherence to Rizal Library’s classification scheme
- Collects library materials from the chutes and tables
- Performs minor repairs to slightly damaged library materials (simple book repairs and mending), and refers severely damaged materials for repair and rebinding
- Assists in the inventory of Circulation materials
II. Library User/Client Support
- Supports check-out/check-in, hold, renewals and recalls, and search requests of library materials
- Determines the eligibility of borrowers by contacting the concerned department
- Verifies and updates students’ records in the Circulation Database (e.g. personal information, enrollment status, borrowing privileges, hold order)
- Coordinates with individuals, offices, and departments concerned regarding the return of books, hold orders, or unsettled accounts
- Attends to basic reference and informational queries of library users
- Attends to online appointments, and scheduling for research of visitors, alumni, and researchers
- Picks up and delivers Inter and Intra Library Loan (ILL)
III. Section Management Support
- Prepares data and drafts reports required by the Section Head
- Tracks visits to Circulation Section and usage of resources by library users
- Tracks, maintain the record of Circulation materials in the bindery
- Records, collates, and maintains statistical data on the assigned area of responsibility (e.g. daily user statistics, number of books for shelving, number of books returned to shelves)
- Monitors library resources and reports to the Section Head any possible safety, security, and maintenance concerns
IV. Performs other tasks that may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One (1) year of relevant work experience
