Library Assistant | Foreign Serials under the Circulation Section of the Rizal Library  

Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Section Head, the Library Assistant I of the Circulation Section provides administrative and library user/client support to the Section. The Library Assistant I processes foreign serials materials, monitors its physical conditions, and ensures its proper organization.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

I. Library User/Client Support

• Attends to basic reference and informational queries of library users
• Attends to request for foreign serials materials
• Attends to online appointments, and scheduling for research of visitors, alumni, and researchers
• Supports check-out/check-in, hold, renewals and recalls, and search requests of library materials

II. Organization and Availability of Resources

• Foreign Serials Processing
  • Attends to current foreign serials subscriptions, ensuring receipt of complete and accurate subscriptions, and reports non-receipt
  • List and Labels foreign serials and records articles from journals (Subscriptions and Gifts and Exchange)
  • Records and updates foreign serials collections in the in-house serial module database, inputting pertinent information
  • Maintains the record of foreign serials materials in the bindery
• Collection Maintenance and Preservation
  • Shelves foreign serials in their proper location, ensuring its proper display
  • Monitors and checks the physical conditions of all foreign serials materials, and recommends if there is a need for repair or replacement
    • Compiles loose journal for binding
    • Checks accuracy and quality of newly-bound foreign serials
  • Assists in the inventory of Circulation and Foreign Serials materials
  • Sorts and Shelf-reads library materials in the Circulation Section
  • List foreign serials materials to be discarded and weeded.

III. Section Management Support

• Prepares data and drafts reports required by the Section Head
  • Records, collates, and maintains general statistical data on the assigned area of responsibility
  • Tracks visits to Foreign Serials Area and usage of resources by library users
• Monitors the Foreign Serials areas, and reports to the Section Head any violation, possible safety, security, and maintenance concerns
• Refers to the Section Head any violation, whenever necessary

IV. Performs other tasks that may be assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• One (1) year of relevant work experience
