Job Description
(Tasks in achieving the accountabilities)
The responsibilities associated with this position include but not limited to:
Maximize revenue through optimal production Planning
- In charge of the short-term (7-day) to medium-term (1.5-year) optimal production/generation planning of SNAP power plant assets with consideration of hydrological constraints, operating efficiency, simultaneous operation of power plant assets, ancillary services, generating unit availability/duration and transmission line constraints.
Develop and maintain up-to-date energy and ancillary services (AS) pricing model (Water Value) for production planning and support to spot trading. Activities includes;
-
- electricity supply and demand forecasting
- plant availability forecasting
- ancillary requirement forecasting
- water inflow forecast
- Portfolio position forecast
- Run price forecast model (developed by Market Analysis)
- utilization/development of dispatch optimization tool
- Coordination with the Trading Team, Commercial Operations, and O&M groups to ensure proper execution of the production plan, and with Market Analysis group on the preparation of inputs (on a weekly and monthly basis) for the price forecast covering up to 1.5 years of the planning horizon.
- Coordination with external counterparties (NIA, NGCP, DOE, etc) to achieve the planned production of the power plants, and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Gather, analyze, sanitize and maintain data, and develop tools and methodology to improve the accuracy of forecasts and optimization.
- In charge of the scheduling of SNAP Plants maintenance outages and other activities, and coordination with Plant O&M, NGCP, and other related parties to minimize its financial impact.
- Conducts research (e.g, improvement in water flow accounting), simulations and studies that will support trading operation and revenue maximization.
- Coordination with NIA and NPC regarding irrigation and use of dam (bathymetric data), and interfacing with PAGASA.
- Reviews and continuously improves/updates operations systems, procedures, standards and policies (process automation).
Study the condition of the power system where SNAP is operating through grid analysis
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date model of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao grids, and ensure that additions and changes in the system (e.g., new transmission lines and power plants) are timely and accurately reflected in the model.
- Develop assumptions and scenarios that reflect the actual behavior of the system to be used in the analysis.
- Perform power system related analysis (load flow, etc) and assess the condition of the system on a regular basis to provide strategic direction to other SNAP business units (e.g., GDP, Market Analysis), trading operations and other production planning activities
- Submit regular reports to timely communicate the result of the study to the management.
- Other similar analysis as may be assigned
Maximize revenue from Ancillary Services (AS) contracting
- Conduct optimization studies to maximize the value from SNAP generation assets and serve as a basis for ASPA contracting.
- Contract preparation and review. Facilitate the coordination of all the parties involved in the finalization of the contract.
- Participate in the negotiation with NGCP for an ASPA contract (includes ASPA forward contracts).
- Monitor incidents of SNAP Plants AS non-compliances and lead the resolution to such non-compliances.
- Develop a methodology (in coordination with Plant O&M) to minimize non-compliances.
- Perform Ancillary Services billing and settlement reconciliations.
Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
