Director of Engineering

We are looking for an experienced technology leader to head our growing Manila engineering team. You will be part of our senior engineering management team and make a strong impact on defining Freelancer.com’s engineering roadmap and managing, monitoring and growing our global engineering functions (in Sydney, Manila, London and Vancouver)! In particular, you will be fully responsible for managing and expanding our engineering office in Manila and helping the teams reach the next level. You will be overseeing the local engineering budgets, various products/projects, processes, and timelines and making any necessary adjustments in order to ensure all external and internal requirements are met and our customers receive the best user experience.

Our engineering team works with the latest tech, and push code 30-40 times a day in a high-performance cloud environment. We develop core, revenue-generating products, which represents an opportunity to have a fundamental impact on our global business which connects more than 49 millions of employers and freelancers globally from over 247 countries, regions and territories. • Track record of managing high performance software engineering teams with 30+ engineers
• Hands-on experience on defining technical roadmaps and team culture, managing timeline and deliverables, and people management; Experience with collaborating with remote teams a plus
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Background in web engineering at scale
• Customer-focused and result-driven
• Strong experience with ES2015+, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks (preferably Angular)
• Strong experience with web development languages, such as Python, Golang, PHP, Node.js, Rust or Ruby
• Experience with relational databases and SQL, preferably MySQL
• Solid Linux experience
• Solid understanding of OWASP and the best web security practices
• Good hands-on knowledge of Configuration Management and Deployment tools like – Puppet, Terraform etc.
• Experience in developing Continuous Integration/ Continuous Delivery pipelines (CI/ CD)
• A Github page with contributions to open source software
• Tertiary Degree in Computer Science / Engineering (or related); MS or PhD a plus
