Cloud Engineer  

The SRE team is responsible for basically saving the galaxy on a regular basis. They build and run the ecosystem that delivers services to all of our customers internally and externally. The Cloud Engineer is focused specifically on the public cloud infrastructure components that comprise this ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement.
• Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews.
• Working with development teams to streamline their daily workflows and release processes, and supporting developers with systems issues that arise
• Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.
• Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
• Practice sustainable incident response and blameless post-mortems
• Explore and evaluate new technologies and solutions to push our capabilities forward
• Supporting team members to collaboratively complete tasks within expected timeframes
• Regularly implementing projects to streamline cloud operations and keep our stack secure, efficient and up-to-date
• Ensuring our websites stay fast and responsive under load, and assisting with incident response as part of our rotational on-call team
• Continually finding ways to automate and streamline our regular tasks
• Evolve regular reporting and dashboards on site stability, availability, utilisation and performance
• Ensure processes and procedures are documented and up-to-date as we continuously improve

Required Skills & Experience

• AWS Certification
• Degree in IT/Software Engineering or similar, or equivalent practical experience
• 3yr+ experience as a Cloud Engineer or similar role
• Good team leadership skills
• Experience in mentoring or leading resources
• Excellent technical problem-solving skills which you can quickly draw on in unfamiliar situations
• Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done in a fast-paced environment
• Proactive communication skills and a strong team orientation
• A positive and helpful attitude towards your coworkers

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience with Python/Bash/PowerShell
• Familiarity with multiple operating systems, particularly Linux
• Exposure to public cloud providers such as AWS, GCP
• Exposure to Agile/DevOps principles such as CI/CD
