Payroll Officer (Expert in Australian Payroll)

Job Description

  • Process accurate and timely payroll in line with the appropriate Industrial Instrument - Awards or Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA)

- collect and accurately calculate timesheets by correct interpretation of awards or EBA

- ensure timesheets, payroll changes, records and other related materials are received prior to close of payroll run by proactively coordinating with each offshore branch

- set-up new employees' details into the system ensuring 'error-free' entries

- accurate data entry/encoding of the payroll data within the pay system and employment records, including changes to existing employee records and other updates/related information

- process payroll including payroll file payment and bank uploads

- prepare and send timely electronic payslips and annual payment summaries

- maintain accurate and organised electronic filing systems for data retention

- manage payroll register, New Employees' cards, Terminations (calculation and payment of entitlements, backpay, redundancy), Leave accrual entitlements and payment

  • Respond to general payroll inquiries, including advice on awards, policies, etc., ensuring excellent customer service in a timely manner
  • Resolve payroll issues
  • Reconciliation and reporting on financial data relating to payroll as required
  • Calculate superannuation contributions and organize payment files
  • Manage superannuation choice funds for employees
  • Preparation and payment of payroll tax returns and reconciliation
  • Assist with month-end accounting process and reporting
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant industrial instruments, EBA and other related legislation and rulings
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as required by the client and management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years' experience in Australian Payroll
  • Comprehensive understanding of Modern Awards in retail industry
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills
  • Working knowledge of payroll systems or accounting systems
  • Proficient with MS Office applications, particularly MS Excel and Outlook
  • Flexibility to perform ad hoc tasks as required by the client
