Job Summary: The Fashion Designer will be responsible for conceptualizing, creating, and developing fashion designs that align with the brand's aesthetic and target market. Will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Production Merchandising, Purchasing, R&D, Product and Development, Merchandising Planning and Control Departmentand Marketing, to ensure that the designs are translated into successful retail products that meet customer needs and contribute to the company's growth.
- Design Development:
- Conceptualize and develop fashion designs, including apparel, accessories, and potentially footwear, that reflect the brand's identity, trends, and market preferences.
- Create detailed sketches, illustrations, and technical drawings to effectively communicate design ideas to the production team.
- Market and Trend Research:
- Stay updated with current fashion trends, consumer preferences, and market insights to inform design decisions.
- Analyze and interpret trend forecasts to adapt them to the brand's design direction.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including merchandisers, pattern makers, and product developers, to ensure the seamless execution of design concepts.
- Communicate design concepts, details, and requirements effectively through visual presentations and discussions.
- Material and Trim Selection:
- Identify appropriate fabrics, materials, and trims for each design, considering factors like quality, cost, and availability.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source necessary materials and maintain strong relationships.
- Prototyping and Sampling:
- Oversee the creation of prototypes and samples, providing guidance and feedback to ensure designs are accurately translated into physical products.
- Participate in fittings and adjustments to ensure the garments' fit, comfort, and overall aesthetic meet brand standards.
- Collection Presentation:
- Contribute to the development of lookbooks, presentations, and visual displays for showcasing collections to internal teams and potential buyers.
- Adaptation and Iteration:
- Continuously refine designs based on feedback, market performance, and emerging trends to enhance the brand's offerings.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay knowledgeable about garment construction techniques, pattern making, and manufacturing processes to ensure design feasibility and efficiency.
- Brand Consistency:
- Ensure that all designs align with the brand's core values, identity, and aesthetic.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience as a Fashion Designer, preferably within a retail or fashion industry setting.
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and other relevant design tools (corelDraw)
- Strong understanding of textiles, fabrics, and garment construction techniques.
- Creative flair and the ability to translate concepts into compelling visual designs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of current fashion trends and market dynamics.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality designs.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design work.
