History of the Franchise
Shabu-shabu was first introduced in Osaka, Japan in the 20th Century. Shabu-shabu is a Japanese style of hotpot. Similar to a sukiyaki, shabu-shabu uses thinly sliced meat and vegetables cooked in broth and served with several dipping sauces. Directly translated, Shabu-shabu means to swish-swish referring to the swishing action when you cook a thin slice of meat in the hot broth.
Shabu-shabu is known to be the best way to eat high-quality beef. The art of eating Japanese shabu-shabu was usually a long process and it was only recently when restaurants began to modernize shabu-shabu. On August 2004, two Japanese entrepreneurs—Eiichi Mochizuki and Koji Kikura opened the first Shabuway Japanese Hot Pot Restaurant in San Mateo, California.
A year after their first branch, they opened Shabuway Mountain View, California on December 2005. With a bigger space, they were able to serve bigger parties, satisfying over 400 customers daily at each location. Their third location opened January 2011 in San Jose California and currently three more new locations are slated to open in the Bay Area this year alone.
The Philippines was fortunate enough to be one of the first to inquire about franchising and our company was able to secure Master Franchise rights for the Philippines and on June 23, 2011 Ganso-Shabuway opened their doors in Manila for the first time.
