About EDWIN D UY architecture, interiors and design office

A design firm which caters to modern designs ranging from commercial, hospitality to residential projects. Pushing the boundaries of architecture and interior design is a hallmark of Uy's work. His experimental proclivity is underpinned by a keen interest in the different fields, which allows him to delve into the various solutions that each area offers, from architecture to interiors, furniture, lighting and accessories, and even landscaping. His creative drive impels him to design structures that challenge technical construction possibilities and to make use of materials in unorthodox ways, but holding true to the discipline of solid architectural concepts. An implicit collaboration between architect and client occurs as Uy seamlessly injects the latter's demands into the overall design. Edwin Uy graduated cum laude in 1999 from the University of Santo Tomas. A firm believer in education, Uy continues to update his knowledge despite the demands of his practice, by attending courses in the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, United Kingdom, and in Boisbuchet in Lessac, France. His studies abroad have brought him in close contact with world-renowned designers such as James Irvine, Ugo Passin, Stefano Giovannoni, Alberto Meda and Maarten Baas. A teacher and mentor himself, he recently gave up his position as lecturer at the Mindanao Polytechnic State College after nearly eight years due to work demands. Edwin Uy's work style starts with listening closely to a client's brief, the lifestyle needs demanded of the space he has to build, the budget he was to work with, and a thorough inspection of the site as building orientation is an important element in the final deliverable. The architectural projects Uy has completed cover a wide range of structures - from residences to commercial spaces like offices, boutiques, showrooms, shopping malls, spas, restaurants, resorts, and clinics. His projects are located throughout the Philippines, with a solitary foray into the Netherlands. Edwin Uy started his practice in Cagayan de Oro in 2003 and after a year had to hire staff to cope with the projects he was handling. The number of clients continues to grow over the years, on top of repeat ones, compelling him to also establish an office in Manila to more effectively meet their needs.
