Job Description

Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Ateneo Human Rights Center (AHRC), the Student Formation Coordinator oversees all forms of student formation and development, including the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP), in line with the University's strategic concerns on mission and identity, and nation building.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

I. Formation of Law Students

  • Coordinates the design, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive set of socially-and spiritually- oriented student formation program, in pursuit of the ideals of Ignatian tradition, with various Ateneo Law School and University stakeholders
  • Coordinates and partners with the Mission Integration Cluster, other Professional Schools, student organizations, pertinent University units, and other pertinent stakeholders in the design and implementation of various formation programs related to spirituality (e.g., annual Jesuit Legal Education for student leaders, retreats, recollections, and other spiritual activities for students, etc.) and regarding social development
  • Coordinates with the Law School Associate Dean for Student Affairs and the student organization leaders in ensuring the provision of programs, workshops, and trainings, which will enhance personal growth and commitment to ideals of the University
  • Coordinates, implements and/or assists the Law School in the implementation of officially sanctioned socially oriented student programs
  • Networks with external stakeholders: coordinates with government, non-government, and private sector stakeholders and partner organizations, institutions, and communities for the conduct of socially-oriented programs
  • Drafts statements on issues identified by the Law School Dean or the AHRC Director that require an official stand from the Law School, AHRC, or concerned members of the Law School community, and facilitates the review and circulation of the same.

II. Human Rights Law Curriculum

  • Facilitates the development of the syllabus and course materials for the Human Rights Law core subject offerings
  • Coordinates the design and implementation of student experiential learning activities for Human Rights Law
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the course, and adjusts when necessary

III. Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP)

  • Designs the CLEP programs in accordance with the requirements of Rule 138-A of the Supreme Court of the Philippines
  • Coordinates with faculty and supervising lawyers, especially of Human Rights on integrating CLEP in human rights classes
  • Monitors and assigns students to the different CLEP programs
  • Supervises the conduct of CLEP activities within and outside the campus, including the budget used for the programs
  • Monitors and assesses the CLEP compliance of enrolled students
  • Monitors the documents for submission to the proper courts to certify the students’ compliance with the CLEP

IV. AHRC Internship Program

  • Designs and oversees the implementation of the AHRC internship program
  • Identifies and coordinates with immersion area partners
  • Leads in the selection of applicants to the AHRC Internship Program
  • Identifies and taps resource persons for the orientation seminars
  • Designs and oversees the continuing formation program for resident interns
  • Liaises with the alumni interns of AHRC
  • Monitors and evaluates the AHRC internship program

V. Performs other work-related tasks as may be required by the Immediate Supervisor and authorized representative.

  • Technical Acumen: Substantive knowledge of curriculum development, human rights curriculum, law school internship requirements, formation, social development and engagement
  • Problem Solving Skills: Ability identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Communications and Public Relations: Ability to communicate and disseminate information/message in various modalities for different stakeholders
  • Critical and Analytical Thinking: Ability to make sound judgement; Ability to connect patterns and see the implications of actions to other systems/processes, analyze situations and information, and come up with recommendations
  • Organization and Prioritization of Work: Ability to effectively plan and coordinate the delivery of required outcomes, according to importance and urgency; keen to details
  • Integrity: High degree of integrity with ethics and values aligned with that of the University; Ability to stand firm on difficult issues if required
  • Initiative: Strong initiative; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate time

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, in good standing
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the same or related position
  • Training on pedagogy and experiential learning
