Back-End Developer  

• Solve problems in a way that paves the path for those coming after you.
• Propose innovative designs & develop robust solutions
• Write well designed, testable and reliable code as you ship features that help students figure out their school and career options
• Promote best practices to continually improve code quality and team productivity
• Collaborate with fellow developers to craft maintainable code and communicate the new capabilities to non-developer co-workers who will be excited to use new tools and offer great customer experiences

Preferred Experience & Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, ElectricalEngineering, or equivalent work experience
• 3 or more years experience of full-time, back-end web application development experience in Ruby, Rails, Python, PHP, or similar languages on significant projects
• 3 or more years experience of agile software development experience including automated testing

Preferred Competencies:

• Knowledge of mobile-friendly and responsive design
• Demonstrable interest in learning and adopting new tools and techniques
• Must understand and have a strong desire to implement delightful user interfaces and experiences
• Self-motivation and an enjoyment for a start-up environment
• An ability to balance a sense of urgency with shipping high quality and pragmatic solutions
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills

Preferred Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, and other front-
• end technologies
• React, Vue.js, Angular or other JavaScript frameworks
• Mongodb, Redis, Sidekiq
• iOS / Android experience
• DevOps or server management experience
• Being data-driven and ability to get insights from data
• Experience working on education websites
• Knowledge of source code control tools like Git, Github
