Summary

Perform DSSM for diagnosis and follow-up and submit results of sputum examination to TB DOTS Nurse. He/she is overall in-charge of the Branch Laboratory operation. Participates in community-based approaches to eliminate tuberculosis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collect, smear, stain, and do microscopic reading of sputum specimen for diagnosis and follow-up.
• Conduct collection procedure and labels induced specimen.
  • For induced specimen.
• Submit results of the sputum smear examination to the clinic nurse.
• Maintain and update the NTP Laboratory register.
• Check and prepare NTP Report (DSSM Data).
• Submit Research Proposal.
  • Supervise and implement with approval from NO and Research Partners.
• Disseminate to partners reliable and valid information on TB treatment and update on prevention and studies on TB.
• Conduct health education in the clinic and in the community in the absence of the nurse.
• Prepare the quarterly report on laboratory activities and submit to the Branch Manager/Officer-in-Charge.
• Prepare the requisition for the laboratory.
• Ensure maintenance and disposal of hazardous waste of the laboratory unit.
• Submit all slides to the provincial of city NTP coordinator for quarterly quality assurance check.
• Conduct lecture on proper sputum collection for Case-finding Activities.
• Communicate with Pathologists in the area when needed.
• Perform inventory of TB Meds and ensures the branch will never be out of stock.
• Document for events outside the clinic.
• Track budget for the Laboratory expenses.
• Perform other relevant assignments/tasks that may be given by the Branch Manager/Office-In-Charge from time to time.
