Kalibrr Talks Employer Branding at Social Media Week Manila

Familiar with others’, and having its own, employer brand story, the company joined #SMWManila2019 to discuss the value of telling employer brand stories on social media

According to the most recent annual digital report by global socially-led creative agency We Are Social and social media management platform Hootsuite, about 99% of internet users in the Philippines are on at least one type of social media platform. The report also claimed that the number of social media users in the Philippines had grown from 67 million last year to 76 million this year.

With this in mind, advertising agency and holdings company Montgomery Fitch + Associates held its Social Media Week Manila series of events for the second year in a row. A platform for exchanging ideas and insights, sharing knowledge and strategic advice, and promoting innovation in media, marketing, and technology, #SMWManila2019 was held in an effort to appeal to Filipinos’ passion for storytelling and encourage the responsible use of social media as a storytelling platform.

Held at Estancia at Capitol Commons in Pasig City for the first day, and the Samsung Hall at SM Aura in Taguig on the second, SMW Manila saw a host of companies and content creators speak at the event, making “kwento” about their experiences and expertise regarding social media and the related technologies and marketing methods. Speakers included those from event sponsor Angkas, Google, Zomato, Klook, and Kalibrr.

Tell Your Employer Brand Story

Speaking on behalf of Southeast Asia only end-to-end recruitment solutions provider, Kalibrr Philippines Country Head Jan Garrovillo shared insight on the importance of companies being able to share their employer brand just as effectively as they do their consumer brand.

“The job market is becoming increasingly competitive. Attrition is very high. The amount of time which professionals spend in companies is very short compared to what it was in as little as five years ago. So you must really communicate the value that you offer so that applicants choose you and the time they spend with you is longer.”

She emphasized how the Employer Value Proposition must be better thought of in order for companies to position themselves as an employer of choice.

“Ten years ago, the primary reason candidates would choose you is if you give a high salary. Now it’s different. Now you have to offer more: compensation, benefits, career–what does their future with you look like, what work environment and culture will they experience with you. These are the five pillars of your Employer Value Proposition. These are the things you need to communicate, not only with your people internally but also outside of the organization, so that you can get applicants and they know you can bring them value just as much as they bring value to you.”

Garrovillo further elaborated while not be able to offer the best of all of the aforementioned pillars, they can take note of which ones they are exceptional at, and start off their employer brand story by highlighting these online.

“My recommendation is to start identifying what those things (EVPs) are and start documenting the related activities you do. But don’t stage it. Don’t do things just for the sake of content. Make sure what you put out there is real, because this will be the basis of company reviews as you go along in the future. Post this on your site or microsites, or if you don’t have the bandwidth or funding, you can partner with other platforms like ours to showcase it, or at the very least showcase it for free on social media.”
