The newly established department of Learning and Development aims to sustain and even upgrade the knowledge and skill set of all employees in the company. With the fast trends in technology happening everyday, it holds major responsibilities to ensure that the company’s main assets are kept abreast of the new tools that are widely being used in the software industry. Moreover, it envisions to inculcate the culture of competitiveness among others through nurturing and updating their capacity both in technical and soft skills aspects. By providing a number of well designed training programs that would cover essentials and advanced skills for different technologies, it hopes to unlock new knowledge and skills for every employee through proper learning methods.

To achieve this goal, the L&D department would only subscribe to the highest standards of pedagogical methods that are well-researched and supported by many studies. It would draw inspiration from the methods that have been proven to be effective and currently, being practiced by many companies. Hence, in its early stage, research works would be crucial to establish the internal process of the department.

As an IT Specialist II, the candidate would play a vital role in achieving the main goal of the department. Through vigorous research, he/she is expected to contribute a lot of valuable inputs in designing and delivering different IT training programs both by offering an effective learning approach and by making the content materials.

As the department is planning for the creation of an eLearning platform that could help deliver these training programs more effectively, the candidate is also expected to actively participate in the development of the system by keeping track of its progress and importantly, by empathising with the end users. Hence, he/she can also suggest key features that would increase the effectiveness of the platform for different types of users.

Job Description

In general, the IT Specialist II we are looking for is considerably a research-intensive position that covers not just the field of information technology but also, education. Its main scope of work can be categorized into two parts: administrative tasks and content materials development.

For the administrative tasks, the applicant should be able to:

• Research on the topics that would improve the training programs such as introducing different pedagogical approaches, measuring learning effectiveness and improving the overall process of the training
• Participate actively on the cyclic evaluation process of all the training programs such as well-detailed assessment of the current programs and proper recommendations to better improve them
• Do clerical tasks that would enhance the process of delivering the training programs such as getting the participants’ background prior to the training, ensuring the accessibility of the materials during the training and collecting their feedback after the training, either by interview or by providing questionnaires
• Coordinate with the stakeholders such as trainers and trainees with regards to the logistics of the training programs
• Make necessary documents that would monitor the progress of an eLearning platform development
• Provide well-researched features that an eLearning platform should have including their advantages and disadvantages

For the content materials development, the candidate should be able to:

• Research on the new trends in technology and be able to understand highly technical terms
• Learn a new technology tool in a short period of time and make a write up that would clearly explain the technical concepts behind this tool. This should include explaining its main usage, characteristics, features and other purposes, both in a nitty-gritty way and in a highly technical exposition.
• Analyze and compare, if applicable, different technology tools as to evaluate and make a thorough survey on their advantages and disadvantages
• Make slides presentation on any assigned topics related to technology and be able to report it audibly and clearly
• Communicate effectively the content materials to a group of people of varying levels of technical background either by writing or by speaking

Hiring Process

• Personality assessment through written exam and interview
• A multiple choice exam on terminologies which covers commonly used jargons in the industry must be passed.
• An English essay on a randomly given topic in technology is required to assess one’s writing skills.
• A report on a randomly given topic in technology is also required to assess one’s speaking skills.

• A graduate of BS Information Technology or BS Computer Science with at least 2 years of work experience in software development is preferred.
• Graduates of other courses such as engineering and education are also welcome to apply. However, being able to understand highly technical terms used in the software industry is a must.
• A high level of English skills, particularly in writing and in speaking is also a must. Aside from having a complete grasp of the given reading materials, being able to rephrase its content into different levels of sentence construction gets more merits.
• Soft skills such as interpersonal skills, work ethic and attention to details are expected to have.

Note: Please be informed that when we say technology, we exactly mean technology tools. For instance, if we asked you to explain topics such as headless server, object oriented programming and APIs in writing or in speaking, you should be able to do so. Otherwise, your qualifications would be deemed inadequate.
