Job Description

Sustansiya, a fast-growing Southeast Asian agribusiness startup is seeking a charismatic Impact Associate to be a key part of a management team that is disrupting the organic fertilizer industry. As Impact Associate, you will have broad responsibility for leading, creating and improving Sustansiya’s impact evaluation and measurement initiatives. The Impact Associate role requires collaboration with the Operations and Sales team, through season planning and monthly meetings, to define and plan for the best use of current resources for evaluating our social impact. The position will be based in BGC but with frequent travel required to the provinces. The candidate will report to the Chief Executive Officer. The position requires a 2-year commitment.

Role

While focused on scaling our impact evaluation capabilities, the demands of a fast growing company mean that we need someone that is comfortable rolling up their sleeves. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Impact Department

  • Leading overall performance of the Impact team, mostly centered around creation and delivery of new Impact analysis tools for our farming communities.
  • Creating Impact models, trial processes, design, analysis, and reporting at every stage of the Impact cycle.
  • Help design new studies, interpret data, and recommend data-driven actions or decisions.
  • Strategically pushing to diversify Impact from profit only impact measurement to long-term triple bottom line metrics focused on farmer profit, soil and environmental health, and family health and nutrition.
  • Oversight of the Impact Team budget.

Core Operations Support

  • Set yearly calendar of activities to monitor impact.
  • Deliver trainings to the field team and farmers based on research and trials.
  • Collaborate and guide strategy around phase 1 and 2 trials.
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise.
  • Strong leadership and management of Impact staff: intern & analyst recruitment, team building; goal setting.
  • Identify and attend key trade shows, conferences, speaking and networking events both domestically and internationally.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, International Development, Economics, Political Science, or other related subject plus 2/3 years of experience.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic and international leadership team.
  • Have experience working in rural communities with farmers on agricultural, community engagement, or other community-based interventions.
  • Understand and have experience with the value chains for key crops relevant to smallholder farmers such as:
    • Coconut.
    • Cacao.
    • Coffee.
    • Corn.
    • Rice.
    • Sugar.
    • Other fruits and vegetables.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of Sustansiya.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities.
  • Proactive, self-starting, and strong attention to detail.
  • Deadline-oriented; ability to follow through on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Coursework and/or applied experience with statistical analysis.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing survey research.
  • Coursework in agriculture/international development and/or program evaluation.
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Willingness to travel.
