The year 2002 saw the birth of Crocs, Inc. in Boulder, Colorado by 3 friends: Scott Seamans, Lyndon "Duke" Hanson, and George Boedecker, Jr.

They decided to develop and market a footwear called Crocs shoes intended as boating / outdoor shoes known for it’s slip resistance and non-marking sole.

How did Crocs get its name? Just like the crocodile, Crocs can be worn on land or in water. Its official name is “Duke”.

Crocs debuted at the Ft. Lauderdale boat show in Florida, November 2002.

Clogs were thrown at passersby, demonstrating how light they are. Despite some funny looks, all 1,000 pairs were sold.

The first model was called “BEACH”

And the first style specifically for women was called “NILE”
