Systems Engineer  

SIMPLENIGHT is a tech start-up in New York City, USA looking forward to shaking up the global travel industry. Our core technology stack uses LEMP with Docker containers built on the Google Cloud Platform. We seek a strong, experienced Systems Engineer with a passion for mastering the latest technologies in IT while working for a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct recurring duties involved with servers to ensure high-availability, integrity, performance and growth of the infrastructure of a massive LEMP-stack system
• Configure, create, backup, automate, optimize and maintain a stable and secure cloud-based infrastructure for a variety of systems, environments and services.
• Ensure the connectivity and integrity of web-services
• Work with other engineers and developers to continually improve system performance and site availability
• Perform daily duties involved with system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all server resources and predefined key processes while providing the company with network disruption awareness
• Review system logs, application logs and security logs
• Provide on-call support whenever necessary
• Help build an amazing and fully available website
• Be on 24-Hour call for possible outages
• Have a well performing computer to undertake this role

Relevant Skills:

• At least 3 years experience in Systems Administration
• Ability to identify breaks and causes for outages related to infrastructure
• Be able to intuitively and deductively come up with fixes for system breaks and outages
• Must have strong communication skills to work with engineers and developers around the world
• Experience in working with large cloud-based infrastructures (AWS, GCE, Rackspace, etc.)
• LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MySQL, PHP) and Docker skills are a must
• Has deployed production applications in the past
• Experience setting up environments, automated and on-demand
• Experience with testing, load and diagnostic tools

Nice To Have:

• Experience working with GAE, Mongo, Laravel, REST API
• Experience administering Github, HAProxy, Jenkins, RabbitMQ
• Experience with test automation tools (Selenium, PhantomJS) and scripting
• Experience working with Kibana, Elasticsearch and Logstash
• Familiar with Agile methodology
• Experience working in a travel tech company like Expedia, Hotels.com, Bookings.com, Tripadvisor, AirBNB, Travelocity etc.
