Job Description
- Own, track, and resolve database-related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs.
- Review service related reports (e.g: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs.
- Respond to database-related alerts and escalations.
- Develop strategic solutions to recurring problems.
- Oversee the development and organization of the databases.
- Develop a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas.
- Develop a security scheme for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster recovery if necessary.
- Work with the transaction processing area to develop both the physical and the logical database administration functions.
- Assist in the development of our processing database and computing environments
- Work with others in IT to build the logical database area and provide technical guidance during all phases of the development process.
- Ensure the installation, administration, and maintenance of SQLServer Instances.
- Setup Test, Dev, Staging, and Production environments.
- Create Users and assign permissions based on the level of database access the user would need.
- Create Linked Servers to SQL Servers and other databases such as Oracle, Access, Informix, etc.
- Design database backup and restoration strategy.
- Once the database Backups are created, monitor those backups to ensure that they are being performed regularly.
- From time to time recover the databases to a specific point of time, per the requests.
- Set up high-availability as part of the Disaster Recovery Strategy for the databases.
- Troubleshoot various problems that arise in a day-to-day work and fix the issues.
- Ensure the effectivity of the following:
- Monitoring and Performance Tuning.
- Physical Server Level.
- Database level (Database settings and options).
- Query tuning.
- Request and/or provide documentation for all change requests to the SQL Server environments.
- Apply service packs, rollups, and hotfixes.
- Focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLAs.
- Establish and maintain communication with technology customers to keep them updated with status of their requests.
- Initiate and perform changes on production systems.
- Proactively escalate any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least a College graduate.
- Service-oriented mentality.
- High sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned.
