Job Description:

  • The position will act as the primary contact for Mainframe monitoring and batch job control processes. Responsible for the support services in order to ensure effective and efficient delivery of monitoring the Mainframe computing platform and ensuring proper execution of batch job processing. Review and process MF program turn-over (PTS) requests.
  • Responsible in the 24 x 7 operations of the Data Center by maintaining organizational systems, and run requested information reports.
  • Monitoring schedules for running jobs and distributing completed reports, entering commands and instructions to answer messages, schedules and release jobs.
  • Review and ensure proper execution of end-of-day (EOD) processing for financial application.
  • Perform media management by loading and unloading media from Tape Libraries and assist in the operation of the RFID system for media inventory.
  • Maintain Data Center operations documentation and is responsible for inquiries from IT Service Desk, with interaction with client's departments/ units.
  • Work closely with Data Center Operators by providing assistance and guidance, and knowledge sharing in the performance of Data Center operations duties and tasks.
  • In coordination with other Data Center Operators, ensure proper shift turnover take place between shifts.
  • Given the operating hours of the Data Center – 7 x 24 x 365, this position requires shift work inclusive of holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and authorize all Mainframe responses to console message or user requests.
  • Generates, submits and releases batch jobs for execution according to assigned sequence and priority. Monitor the release of batch jobs submitted according to pre-assigned sequence and priority.
  • Review and process program turn-over (PTS) requests for financial applications.
  • Work with system administrators to ensure that procedures are accurate to support a 24 x 7 data center running multiple servers.
  • Monitor job processing on multiple servers to include events run by automated scheduler, manual job processing, and report any issues with jobs in error or that are exhibiting non-standard behavior.
  • Document issues in accordance with written procedures and escalate if necessary to the appropriate staff, system administrator or application owner. The operator is responsible for assuring that issues are logged using the computerized Incident Reporting System and resolved in a timely manner or turned over to the next shift.
  • Visually monitor IT hardware, servers and other equipment located in the Data Center and proactively report issues. Monitor repair and maintenance works in the Data Center facility.
  • Monitor backups run and ensure that they have completed successfully.
  • Review activities in a shift to ensure required facilities, manpower and supplies are available, and errors are promptly resolved and schedules are met.
  • Inform designated contact persons and supervisors of emergency conditions and getting required decisions; responding to emergencies according to prescribed procedures.
  • Review client’s Operations Manual (O2M) and provide necessary updates. Adhere to system processes and procedures stated in the client's Operations Manual (O2M).
  • Assist in the proper implementation of media management inside the Data Center.
  • Observe security and safety guidelines of client’s and respond to emergencies according to prescribed procedures. Assists in the implementation of physical security standards in client’s Data Center.
  • Support maintenance and operational activities (i.e. upgrades, DC shut-down, disaster recovery testing, etc.).
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other relevant field
  • Minimum of four (4) years work experience in a Data Center Operations with a good background on a variety of ICT equipment (e.g. servers, tape libraries, network equipment, workstations, printers, etc.)
  • Good foundation on problem identification, troubleshooting, resolution and equipment / software installation procedures.
  • Familiar with Windows Operation System (desktop / server), and Unix/Linux System Administration tasks
  • Proficient in IBM S/390 Mainframe console operations (z/OS, JES2 and TSO), report distribution, tape management system, operation (IBM 3584 Tape Library)
  • Basic knowledge on backup systems (e.g. Symantec NetBackup) and operation of tape library.
  • Good oral and written skills in English.
  • Good organization and record keeping skills.
  • Experience in supporting banking industry an advantage.
  • Team player but also with ability to work alone.
  • Agreeable to work on flexible schedules or shifts inclusive of holidays
  • Knowledge of word processing software (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project).
