Who you are
A production & operations specialist is a multi-skilled visual professional with a nose for news, and could handle videographer, director, audioman, and video editor duties.
Responsibilities:
- You'll be taking care of the visual elements seen on multimedia platforms on social and on the Rappler site. You'll work in the studio and in remote locations.
- You should be prepared to work unpredictable hours, and be available on-call especially during breaking news. You should have your passport ready, as you may be deployed in or out of the country.
- This is something that can be learned on the job, but a definite bonus if you are able to direct multi-camera studio equipment and video switching, generate and inserts on-screen text and graphics in live productions.
- You should also perform routine video and audio equipment maintenance.
- You should have basic knowledge of audio mixing equipment and studio lighting.
- In the field or remote location, you should be able to work in tandem with a reporter and be agile. You will also set up and place the lighting and audio equipment for location work.
- Back in the newsroom, you will work closely with the post-production team (producers and video editors). You will review the footage you shot, and work closely with the post-production team that edits and prepares reports, shows, events, and documentaries.
Minimum Qualifications
- A film/communication degree or equivalent work experience
- The ability to work with different types of camera equipment – a plus if already well-versed in the Sony full-frame and Lumix M43 systems
- Basic knowledge of video software, such as Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere
- Excellent interpersonal skills – on the field, production specialists along with reporters work with people of all ages from all walks of life
- Time management – ability to work within tight deadlines
- Multi-skilled, but with laser-like focus. And great attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills – videographers/directors provide direction to capture the right moments on camera, which requires good verbal communication skills
- As this is a very physically challenging job most times, you should be in good physical health. It takes physical fitness to transport, move, set up, and take down various pieces of heavy recording equipment.
