Systems Administrator  

We’re looking for someone who can take on the responsibility of our in-house and clients’ web servers. Your main focus will be to update and maintain our high quality hosting configurations while working towards helping us scale as we take on new clients for web app and mobile app projects. At the same time, you’d be responsible for managing our team’s Ubuntu and Windows based laptops and office network.

Responsibilities

• Establishes web system specifications by:
  • Analyzing access, information, and security requirements.
  • Designing system infrastructure through team collaboration.
• Utilizes our established cloud hosting system to install, configure, and test server resources by:
  • Defining system and operational policies and procedures.
• Maintains web system performance by:
  • Performing system monitoring and analysis, aswell as performance tuning.
  • Troubleshooting hardware, software, and operating and system management systems.
  • Designing and running system load/stress testing.
  • Escalating application problems to vendor.
• Secures web system by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation by:
  • Establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures.
  • Completing back-ups.
  • Maintaining documentation.
• Upgrades web system by:
  • Conferring with vendors and services.
  • Developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.
• Meets financial requirements by:
  • Submitting information for budgets.
  • Monitoring expenses.
• Updates job knowledge by:
  • Tracking emerging internet technologies.
  • Participating in educational opportunities.
  • Reading professional publications.
  • Maintaining personal networks.
  • Participating in professional organizations.
• Accomplishes organization goals by:
  • Accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
  • Exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

• Preferably a graduate of BS Information Technology.
• At least 3 years experience of working in a web server administration.

Required skills

• Operating Systems:
  • Linux (Debian/Ubuntu specific)
• Configuration Management Utilities:
  • SaltStack (Willing to train)
• Cloud Platforms and Hosting:
  • DigitalOcean, Amazon EC2, Cloudfront/S3,
• Web Servers:
  • NGINX (primarily) and some Apache
• Database Servers:
  • MySQL and MariaDB
  • Bonus: Percona, PostgreSQL and MongoDB
• Monitoring Systems:
  • Monit (Zabbix or Nagios is a bonus)
• Mail Servers:
  • Postfix
• Security:
  • Firewall, ClamAV, Malware detection, APF, Brute Force Detection
• Backup:
  • Amazon S3, Xtrabackup, MySQL Replication

Additional Notes

• We encourage you to apply if you have an experience in managing web servers on a Linux based environment. We use Debian for everything though a background in CentOS is fine too.
• Python knowledge will help you learn SaltStack faster but isn’t necessary.
