Job Description

The Field Monitoring Officer, in collaboration with the Reforestation Officer, is in charge of day-to-day monitoring ensuring that the Masungi Geopark Project (MGP) is able to successfully and efficiently conduct its reforestation activities in 2,000 hectares of denuded forest that form part of the Upper Marikina Watershed.

He/she is responsible for monitoring critical maintenance activities for selected grounds and facilities within the area and ensuring they are to par with world-class standards. In so doing, MGP shall protect and maintain a sustainable water source, restore the lush forests of Masungi and bring back its wildlife, and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The Monitoring Head shall take the lead in the following tasks, among others:

  • Supervise team members and monitor project progress;
  • Motivate and attend to needs of team members and rangers;
  • Meet reforestation targets for native trees in the area;
  • Ensure the effective, efficient, and professional maintenance of grounds and facilities within the area;
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations in coordination with the Reforestation Officer;
  • Other important tasks he or she may be assigned to by the Project Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion for environmental conservation and the outdoors;
  • Physical fitness and stamina for long hikes and walks;
  • Ability to systematize and innovate on monitoring and operational processes;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong leadership skills for managing a team with rural community members, varied backgrounds and personalities;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Excellent coordination and operations management skills
  • Willingness to work in a remote location;
  • Experience in field monitoring and maintenance is not mandatory and may be learned;
  • The following specialisations are not mandatory but are good and complementary pluses for the project in general: Reforestation and forestry/engineering/enforcement/community organizing/

Other notes:

  • Quarters are provided on-site for supervisors
  • Work areas are outdoor open space locations
