Job Description
kumu is looking for an Artist Development Associate to do A&R and talent development in collaboration with our VP of kumu Music. The key responsbilities and goals for this role would be to scout and support talents for Kumusika -- our distribution platform and artist services sub-brand -- and help them build and grow their communities on kumu.
As our Artist Development Associate, your scope of work will include the following:
- Scout and sign up new talents;
- Support talents with the connections and knowledge they need to produce and collect all the requirements for distribution, including marketing drivers;
- Reading trade papers, music magazine, and blogs/watching livestreams and live shows/listening to demos and songs/joining music-centric groups to discover new talent and niche communities;
- Identify niche communities and trends to target and focus on;
- Work with the kumu Music team in growing a diverse community of independent artists, producers, and labels;
- Support the Distribution Supervisor in helping talents pitch to playlists, pitching artists internally to our SocialTV and kumunity shows;
- Support artists and brands in cultivating their communities and grow their success on the kumu app;
- Identify user needs and motivations, and work with the rest of the team to provide the best user experience for them to grow;
- Coordinate and create educational resources (workshops, masterclasses, presentations), including coordinating with the kumunity and Talent Development teams;
- Create and manage a regular feedback loop (including surveys and interviews) and work to help the Product Team understand the user needs and experience;
- Teach and guide new music streamers "how to kumu" and continue to onboard them to new features, and help them figure out how to best use the platform in meeting their needs and objectives;
- Develop talents into influencers, and guide them through the progression from newbie through the creator programme, and unlocking private concerts and ShopKumu features.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree holder;
- Any field of study, but preferably with experience in Music Industry/Audio Engineering;
- Deep understanding of the music industry and contemporary culture;
- Knowledge of music as a business (including artist rights, cost centers and revenue streams, success metrics, etc.);
- Good understanding of the live-streaming, community building, and in-app success metrics;
- Deep knowledge and understanding of the kumu app and its community;
- Comfortable and skilled at making connections, establishing rapport, and building relationships;
- Interest in mutiple genres (or genre-agnostic);
- Up to date with all the trends in music, cultire, and music-tech;
- Track record of knowing what music sells, and which artists have the potential to build a loyal following;
- Goal-oriented, efficient, and high-performing;
- A good communicator, a team player who can work and make decisions independently.
