Job Description
- Monitor routine risk reports and as needed, will prepare and run reports
- Monitoring will include all risk limits and warnings to which portfolios are subjected.
- Interpret reports and escalate any identified areas of concern.
- Will handle routine issues through conversations with researchers, traders, and other personnel.
- Investigate issues of concern, provide definition and structure to the topic being explored
- Perform all necessary quantitative analysis and summarize findings without alienating colleagues. In many cases, these investigations may be assigned under conditions of urgency. Healthy skepticism is essential in these investigations, as is the willingness to keep asking thoughtful questions, requesting objective evidence of assertions. A complete understanding of the situation and the ability to explain answers with confidence is critical. The Risk Associate is expected to perform well and keep composure under pressure.
- Communicate escalations and results of investigations to the appropriate parties including The Chief Risk Officer, the Risk Committee, Principals, researchers, and portfolio managers
- Must be clear, persuasive and assertive in his/her communication of risk information, and will follow through on all related actions. He/she must develop the gravitas and reputation for rigorous accuracy to be trusted on high-pressure decisions. Developing mutual respect and trust is necessary for good two-way communication between Risk and the rest of the firm
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, etc.)
- 1-2 years experience in financial risk management, preferably at a major firm within a quantitative group
Qualifications
- Familiarity with capital markets
- Familiarity with quantitative investment strategies
- Superior written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to grasp new concepts quickly
- Demonstrated ability to apply structure and process to unfamiliar situations
- Ability to work across teams and with colleagues at all levels sometimes under stressful/confrontational conditions
- Proven ability to communicate complex information in a clear, concise manner
- Ability to apply experience and judgment towards processing large volumes of and making decisions with incomplete information
- Capacity to adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities while being open to the viewpoints of others
- Must be willing to work mid shift (2-11PM)
