The Incumbent for the position shall be directly reporting to the President and the CEO, and shall be responsible for providing top management with effective advice on company strategies and their implementation, managing the legal function, and overseeing all cases including those handled by external counsel/s. The Incumbent may also lead tactical legal initiatives, shall be directly involved in negotiating critical contracts and transactions to be entered into by the Company, and may be required to evaluate high-risk bonds/surety contracts.
The Legal Manager shall act as the Company's in-house Legal Counsel and head the entire Legal Team/Department. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Work in close coordination with the Company's other appointed in-house and/or external Legal Counsel/s, legal staff, and representatives from the Bonds/Surety, Collection and Claims Departments.
- Participate in the (re-)development of company policies, processes, and programs.
- Provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters.
- Attend and represent Company in meetings and serve as Key Legal Advisor on all major business transactions.
- Evaluate the merits of court cases filed against or on behalf of the Company, work with the top management and/or other key employees/representatives to come up with a strategic defense.
- Recommend settlements of disputes, as may be appropriate.
- Assume responsibility for ensuring that the Company conducts its business in compliance with applicable government; laws and regulations (e.g. SEC).
- Manage the Company's legal function and department.
- Represent the Company in proceedings before courts and other administrative agencies.
- Oversee all other legal related concerns.
- Assume responsibility for proper safekeeping and completeness of all company legal records.
- Special incentives may also be provided including a company assigned car and/or commissions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a Bar Passer and a Graduate of Law from a reputable law school/university;
- With at least five (5) year(s) of litigation experience;
- With good leadership, collaboration/communication and problem-solving skills;
- Thorough, highly analytical and with keen attention to details;
- Self-starter, resourceful, and customer-oriented;
- With good time management skills and can work in a fast-paced environment;
- Previous employment in a non-life insurance company, other financial institutions and/or medium-sized law firms shall be an advantage;
- Preferably a licensed driver;
- Applicants must be willing to work in Makati City.

About Investors Assurance Corporation
Sometime in 1964, the first incarnation of Investors Assurance Corporation came into existence. Bearing the name “First Pan Asiatic Insurance Corporation”, the Corporation was formally organized and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on October 27 of the same year.
On 01 April 1978, a change in the composition of the Corporation took shape when a group of businessmen-bankers led by Messrs. Willy S. Co, Ramon L. Siy and Philip T. Ang acquired the holdings of Prof. Lope Leonio and his family in the Company.
In order to reflect such change in the Corporation, the new corporate name “INVESTORS ASSURANCE CORPORATION” was adapted and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on 25 September 1978.
From then on, the Investors Assurance Corporation became a stable pillar in the industry while still maintaining its low-key operations.
The year 2002 heralded a new dynasty when the Corporation underwent yet another change in its composition when a new set of investors, spearheaded by St. Catherine Landholding and Development Corporation, infused new blood, capital and sense of direction. Taking over the ownership of the Company and complying with the mandatory paid-up capitalization of P250,000,000.00, the new group was able to invigorate operations and keep up with the vision of the Corporation’s founding fathers.
On February 25, 2010, the company’s Administrative Order No. 280 was signed and released by the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines authorizing Investors Assurance Corporation to become a Surety. This gave the company an additional avenue for growth by providing an opportunity to operate on a full service capacity on surety lines, both civil and criminal.
With a strong financial position and with authority to operate on a full line scale, the insuring public is now best assured of Investors Assurance Corporation’s outstanding service and protection, which the company commits of consistently providing.
