About us

The Plastic Credit Exchange (HOPEx) is a non-profit founded by HOPE and its partners in order

to prevent plastic waste from ending up in our oceans, landfills, and food chains. HOPEx takes

plastic pledges from companies, and provides them with a way to offset their plastic footprints;

that is, credible and verifiable post-consumer plastic removal from our environment. Overseen

by a global steering committee, HOPEx maintains 100% transparency in its work.

The role

This is a key position within a new company, with plenty of head room to grow. The Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. You will ensure implementation of HOPEx’s mission to be the first and leading substantial plastic offset company. This role will be reporting to the Founder and will be managing a team comprised initially of a Campaign Manager and Operations Administrator. The Managing Director will conceptualize, manage and oversee complex project plans, working in close collaboration with the Campaign Manager and various external stakeholders.

Financial Management:

  • Direct and administer all financial plans and oversee business policies and financial practices.
  • Develop and monitor project budgets to assure organizational efficiency and appropriate resource allocation; manage cash flow.
  • Coordinate annual budget planning process and oversee long term budgeting.
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of HOPEx, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

Project Development and Management:

  • Works with the board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
  • Translate projects into timelines, deliverables and assignments in coordination with Campaign Manager and various stakeholders.
  • Oversee implementation of project plans that carry out the organization’s mission and provide resolutions to roadblocks.
  • Develop processes to ensure the quality and timely delivery of projects.

Human Resources and Leadership:

  • Provide a strong leadership presence
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, compensation and performance management
  • Benefits administration and oversight
  • Retention strategies
  • Regulatory oversight and legal compliance
  • Mentoring and coaching of existing and new employees
  • Establish staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities and priorities
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals

Operations:

  • Serve as HopeX’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
  • Oversee risk management and legal activities
  • Oversee administrative functions for HopeX office and staff; ensure smooth daily operations of the company
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Founder informed of all critical issues
  • Provide effective and inspiring operational leadership to the work of the organization by developing a broad and deep knowledge of all programs.

Minimum Qualifications

We are looking for a self-starter, environmentally savvy individuals with strong business acumen who is well-equipped to develop, improve and launch our plastic offset business.

  • Preferably with a Master’s Degree in Business, or any related courses
  • Strong operational experience; Must have at least 5 years in a senior management role in an environmental nonprofit organization and adept in working with a Board of Directors
  • Experience in business development with proven track record of generating new revenue streams and improving financial results
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting
  • Strong network of contacts that helps projects done ethically and efficiently
  • High-level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff and board.
  • Strong work ethic, and high integrity leadership
