Job Purpose:
Senior Software Engineer’s main role is responsible for designing the software application from conception to completion. Typically deal with some of the programming responsibilities, and delegates programming responsibilities to other members of the technical staff working on the application. This includes overseeing and directing technical staff to complete the application correctly, and assisting with problems or technical issues that may arise.
Often have to explain business processes to other programmers and technology restraints to non-technical business managers.
Increasingly need to have knowledge of some computer programming languages and applications. This is due to the wide variety of work that they can be involved in.
Job Challenge
- Managing the expectations of the Business stakeholders and team lead.
- Requires resourcefulness and good analytical skills in the absence of business analysts.
- Requires efficient self-organizational skills in the absence of project manager/scrum master.
- Working in a team with codebases you didn't write
- Tuning/optimizing legacy source codes
- Ensuring uptime of 98% of applications handled
- Working to tight deadlines whilst continuing to deliver quality product.
- Ability to reprioritise shifting requirements.
- Train entry level employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and Experience
- 4-5 year experience in Java, HTML, JEE, JS, CSS, SOAP/REST Webservice, Spring, Struts framework using Oracle as backend database
- Strong Oracle scripting background
- No Ssql experience, ideally with MongoDb is an advantage
- Strong background on object oriented programming and design patterns
- Knowledgeable on web and application servers (e.g. Apache, JBoss, Amazon Cloud)
- Basic experience in UNIX scripting
- Knows tools including SVN, Git
- Experience in technologies for site performance optimisation is an advantage
- 3 year server side Javascript development (ie, Node JS) is an advantage
- To communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues in IT team, as well as non-technical users
