Job Description

Responsible for developing and growing sales and market share for the company’s plasterboard, plaster, metal frame, accessories and other related products including its drywall and ceiling systems/solutions to construction projects in the following key construction market sectors - Hotel, Residential, Commercial, Institutional, Education and Healthcare – by influencing key decision makers such as general contractors, sub-contractors, and installers to approve and use products and systems.

  • Identifies potential customers and key building projects and generates leads for the organization.
  • Builds brand equity and cultivates strong business relationships with general contractors, sub-contractors and installers by
    • Ensuring a comprehensive communication of the features, benefits, value propositions and relevant technical know-how regarding the use and application of products and systems with a view to achieving successful penetration against substitute building products and systems (such as fiber-cement, plywood, brick & block, and sand & cement).
    • Providing technical training on products and systems.
    • Providing on-site support and audit on the proper installation of products and systems.
    • Providing quality after sales service and advice.
  • Ensure full compliance with the reporting requirements of management thru
    • Detailed and accurate recording of activities including weekly call plans, visit reports, and details of agreements made with customers.
    • Proper tracking and monitoring of relevant projects and packages in the key targeted construction market sectors
    • Timely preparation of monthly performance reports and other ad-hoc reports that may be required
  • Coordinates with the specifications team to ensure that tracking of specified projects are properly turned over for sales conversion.
  • Collaborates with Distributors to ensure project specifications and approvals are converted to of products and systems.
  • Provides training and technical support to Distributors’ sales personnel on products and systems.
  • Monitors, analyses and provides management with all relevant market and competitive information (including but not limited to existing building methods, new building methods and any regulatory or legal requirements relating to products and systems or the building industry in general, competitors selling prices and selling techniques, etc.).
  • Advises management of any opportunities for New Product Development and/or opportunities for the provision of new systems and services to Customers.
  • Advise management of any changes in local building industry requirements and highlight opportunities for New Product Development and/or opportunities for the provision of new systems and services to Customers.
  • Best ensure the employee’s own personal safety and the safety of others accompanying them on business, particularly when driving and when visiting hazardous areas including (but not limited to) building sites and warehouses. Have readily available at all times employee’s own PPE including hard hat, safety shoes, hi-vis vest/jacket and safety glasses.
  • Maintain an adequate “trunk” stock of literature and samples.
  • Any other ad hoc activities that may be required by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in any technical field.
  • Knowledge of technical sales
  • Knowledge of the building industry and how building projects work and how building sites operate
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good Interpersonal skills (Good at building interpersonal relationships, uses initiative, demonstrates a positive attitude and is diplomatic, tactful, assertive and enthusiastic.)
  • Good Functional skills (Negotiating, Presenting, Selling, Writing technical correspondence, planning & reporting, Communication, Problem-solving, Coordinating, Monitoring and is Accountable.)
  • Good command of spoken and written English.
  • Good computer skills (MS office excel, word, power-point) and e-mail.
  • 3-years in a technical sales role, with a manufacturing company in a B to B environment involving products related to building or construction and, ideally, a minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience working on building materials or construction.
