In-House Legal Counsel  

Who You Are

As the company’s In-House Counsel, you will be critical in protecting the company’s business and reputation. You will be working closely with the global operations team in ensuring the complete and timely processing of government documents across the various states in the US. You will provide operational support through your research of legal regulations, review of documents and process; and facilitate the movement of client records within the team and through the intended end point of the government agencies. In a team that places a focus on developing excellence and agility, we want to create the best environment possible to advance the company’s reputation, overcome obstacles and preserve business opportunities.

This team is in a work from home setup and the company will provide the necessary equipment to succeed in the role.

About the Company

Code Ninja houses 3 different US-based tech companies. This role will be assigned to Veterans Home Access or DD214 Direct. It is a technology first company dedicated to helping veterans and military families retrieving their government records. We aim to be the change these veterans need in getting their benefits faster.

What You Do

• Research procedures in claiming veteran benefits from relevant US government agencies
• Differentiate legal nuances across all states in the US
• Stay abreast of changes in government regulations to ensure consistency in compliance
• Analyze internal business systems to ensure compliance with industry and governmental regulations and ethical standards
• Lead the correspondence with government agencies and cultivate a good working relationship
• Collaborate with with the Operations team in process improvement initiatives
• Perform document audits and regularly report findings to the Founders
• Handle escalations as needed by leveraging relationships
• Review bottlenecks, internal and external, in the claiming of veteran benefits
• Design control systems to minimize risks, escalations and overcome roadblocks
• Create and revise message templates, forms, and training materials as necessary
• Work closely with the Operations Manager in ensuring turnaround times (TAT) are met

What You Bring

• Bachelor of Laws/ Juris Doctor degree holder
• At least 2 years of proven working experience in the legal field
• Deep understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, and other related matters
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• High organizational skills and attention to detail
• Persistency in solving problems
• Self-starter and can thrive in a fast paced environment
• Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment
• Proficiency with collaboration or task management software
• WIlling to work night shift
