Job Description
- Monitor performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users;
- Map out the conceptual design for a planned database, considering both back-end data organization and front-end accessibility for end-users;
- Refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
- Refine physical designs to meet system storage requirements;
- Install and test new versions of the DBMS
- Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act;
- Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
- Control access permissions and privileges;
- Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans to ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning according to plan;
- Capacity planning while working closely with our IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers;
- Communicate regularly with technical, application and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
- Commission and install new applications and customizing existing applications to make it suitable for purpose
- Sustain the security and integrity of data
- Create complex query definitions to allow data extraction
- Train colleagues how to input and extract data
Minimum Qualifications
- Computer Science or Information Technology graduate with at least complete of three (3) years of progressive work experience as DBA highly preferred
- Strong proficiency in MySQL database management
- Sufficient experience with recent versions of MySQL
- Understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
- Experience with replication configuration in MySQL
- Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL
- Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
- Knowledge of MySQL features, such as event scheduling
- Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
- Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Memcached and etc.
- Knowledge of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git / SVN
- Familiar with Java Spring Framework
- Knowledge of 'relational database management systems' (RDBMS), 'object oriented database management systems' (OODBMS) and XML database management systems
- Experience with database software and web applications
- Up-to-date knowledge of technology and Data Protection
