About Bank of the Philippine Islands

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is a commercial bank with an expanded banking license. Together with its subsidiaries, BPI offers a wide range of financial services that include corporate banking, consumer banking and lending, investment banking, asset management, securities distribution, insurance services, leasing, and foreign exchange. These services are offered to a wide range of customers, from multinational corporations, government entities and large corporations to small- and medium-sized enterprises and individuals. Established on August 1, 1851 and originally known as El Banco Español Filipino de Isabel II, BPI was the first bank to be established in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia. With the Philippines then under Spanish colonial rule, the Bank effectively started the country’s banking and finance industry, performing many functions like printing and issuing currency in its own name, making it the country’s de facto central bank. For many years after its founding, BPI was the only domestic commercial bank in the Philippines. It adopted its current name on January 1, 1912. Today, BPI is a leader in Philippine banking, with its high market capitalization, strong Tier 1 capital adequacy ratio and healthy shareholder return, all promoted and supported by prudent management. BPI is rated investment-grade by the international ratings agencies, making it a solid partner for business and investments in the country. BPI offers revolving credit, term credit, trade finance, supply chain finance, deposit taking, cash management, global payments and other transaction services to fulfill the diverse needs of multinationals and local conglomerates in the country. With its seasoned and highly trained pool of relationship managers, BPI works in tandem with its corporate clients to help them identify, seize and harness opportunities for business growth and success in today’s global market. Recognizing the specialized needs of certain segments, BPI also has dedicated desks for top Asian businesses (Japanese, Chinese and Korean), companies located and operating within the country’s economic zones and those engaged in Agribusiness. For corporates who are looking to maximize their capital market fund-raising capabilities, BPI Capital, the Investment Banking arm of BPI, is fully equipped to manage and execute holistic solutions to address their needs. They provide advisory, structuring, financing and capital markets solutions for local businesses, as well as unique partnering solutions for local and international clients. Their experienced team combines sharp market insight with outstanding execution, using the full resources and capabilities of the bank to help clients reach their strategic and financial objectives. Over the years, BPI has consistently been recognized by the most prestigious award-giving bodies, such as: Alpha Southeast Asia, Asian Banker, Asian Banking & Finance Awards, Finance Asia, Euromoney, The Asset Triple A, PDS Group and Global Finance.
