Job Description

A. Provision of Medical/ Clinical Services

  1. Render prompt treatment of illnesses/injuries both work-related/non-work related, not requiring hospital emergency room cares. Refer employees to qualified medical specialists in the community when appropriate.
  2. Assess an employee’s ability to return to work following an illness or injury and provide physical capabilities assessment, so that job accommodations can be evaluated and offered when appropriate. Advise the site of changes in the employee’s physical capabilities so that work accommodations can be appropriately revised or removed.
  3. Conduct periodic examinations of employees in designated medical monitoring programs;
  4. Pre-placement/ transfer in/ exit tests/ examinations. Other programs to be identified through health data analysis.
  5. Liaise in conducting Annual Employee Health Screens directed towards health promotion and disease prevention. Review results of medical screening tests. Provide and document in the medical record, follow-up and counseling on abnormalities noted on the physical examination &/or tests conducted.
  6. Make referrals for treatment and follow-up of non-work related medical conditions.
  7. Participate in review and follow-up of complicated Employee Compensation and Disability Benefit cases. Serve as a medical resource to the site’s Human Resources and the sites occupational health resource by advising on the appropriateness of care and prognosis, including the expected duration of disability. Actively interface with the local medical community to facilitate early return to work when appropriate.
  8. Review, sign and interpret appropriate tracings and laboratory reports. Recommend follow-up actions for all abnormal electrocardiograms (ECG), audiometric, pulmonary, X-ray, laboratory, or other medical tests performed on site.

B. Medical Professional/ Community Liaison

  1. Facilitate good community relations by establishing or maintaining a liaison with city and/or state health authorities and community agencies on matters involving emergency response capabilities needed by the site, as well as preventive health issues of importance to the plant or facility.
  2. Identify a referral pool of health professionals.

C. Policy and Administrative Role

  1. Provide direction and clinical guidance to the site’s wellness activities e.g. Lifestyles, Employee Assistance Program and Cardiovascular Risk reports, based on aggregate site health data.
  2. Assist Health Services in developing site specific written standing orders; for emergency procedures and the dispensing of medications etc. per local legal requirements. Review, initial and date these documents annually, and revise them as needed.
  3. Possess basic knowledge of medical aspects of local legal and regulatory requirements.
  4. Understand COMPANY’S incident and lost time accident reporting expectations. Understand and be able to assist the site in calculating appropriate incidence, prevalence and severity rates for occupational disorders.
  5. Maintain communication with the company’s designated Occupational Health Coordinator.

D. Risk Assessment/ Risk Management

  1. Be aware of existing chemical and physical occupational health risks at the site.
  2. Be knowledgeable of the potential health effects being addressed by specific site medical surveillance programs. Clinically evaluate and treat occupational illnesses or injuries that arise at the site. Advise the site occupational medicine resource/OH-Coordinator before referring employees to specialists in the community when the need arises for more specialized medical evaluations (consultations) or treatment which may involve an occupational exposure issue.
  3. Be familiar with the specific jobs in the facility in terms of their physical requirements and potential for adversely affecting employee health. Assist in job safety analysis (JSA) and recommend changes that would reduce the risks to employee health, including recommendations to reduce ergonomic risk factors when appropriate.
  4. Participate in and present medical training-first aid training, and summaries of aggregate health data at appropriate health, safety and business meetings.

E. Management/ Administration

  1. The Management/ Administration component requires knowledge and application of management theory in organizing, equipping, maintaining and evaluating employee health service.
  2. Participate in the formulation and utilization of administrative procedures.
  3. Select supplies and equipment consistent with the needs of the company’s Employee Health Services and with consideration of cost control.
  4. Supervise maintenance of an effective, accurate medical record system that will identify individual and Company health and safety programs as well as provide essential date in cases of litigation.

F. Professional Standards

  1. The site physician must be a licensed physician in the area where the respective plant/facility is located. He/she must possess strong clinical skills, with a background in Occupational Medicine, Family Practice or Internal Medicine preferred.
  2. Maintain confidentiality, releasing information only to other physicians at the request of the individual after signed consent is obtained, or when otherwise legal to do so. Recognize that employers are entitled to information about the medical fitness of employees in relation to their work capabilities, but are not entitled to a specific medical diagnosis or details of the employee’s health conditions.
  3. The site physician should receive regular performance appraisals with defined performance measures, and include input from plant leadership.
  4. The site physician is responsible for maintaining a current license to practice medicine by complying with all professional standards and legal requirements. Site physicians are encouraged to be a member of their local society.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Will be under Consultancy Agreement
  • Strong analytical and planning skills;
  • Good communication and presentation skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills;
  • Will be assigned to the nearest site available to residence.
