Reporter  

Position Summary
A Reporter actively pursues all news stories assigned to him by the News Desk Editor and timely provides the assigned DNG Specialist all the elements necessary for the production of ready-to-air materials for assigned stories selected by the Company for possible airing during newscasts and/or breaking news or flash reports, such as:

1. Complete Script, including VO, taglines and transitions, among others
2. Complete selection of audio and video necessary under the script.

While pursuing his assigned stories the News Reporter may be required to render live and VO reports during newscasts, including breaking news or flash reports, on any of the Company's platforms.

On Gathering News:

• Make sure that ABS-CBN News is the first to get the story correctly, and is the first to break the story on air and on digital media platforms.
• Pursue stories with complete accuracy and with best angle; and to generate story ideas daily, develop and submit two or more enterprise stories per month.
• In generating story ideas, gathering information and producing stories and other content for all of ABS-CBN's news platforms, do so in a clear, relevant and meaningful manner.
• Ensure that information gathered and presented meet the standards of ABS-CBN News in terms of journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Coordinate and work closely with assigned Assignment Editor on the developments of the assigned story.
• Identify the right and/or the best person to be interviewed and elicit the necessary information from the data source.
• Familiarize and apply the latest systems/workflow in newsgathering such as iNews, Newsgathering Grid, among others.
• Keeps up to date with the latest news information.
• Check out news tips, research on stories, and maintain a community of news sources.

On Package Development

• Organize materials and write stories according to prescribed style and format standards.
• Choose the right SOTs, NATSOT element, and adequate video support for the story.

On News Delivery

• Relays the news stories on-air with confidence and in a convincing manner.
• Able to render live and on-the-spot, spontaneous annotation reportage.
• Strong on-cam presence.

On Operations Efficiency

• Observes and live by the Code of Ethics; maintains objectivity and able to shield oneself from being exploited by news contacts.
• Collaborates effectively with assigned DNG Specialist and news gathering team assigned and others who are involved in the coverage.

The Reporter must have had extensive background or actual experience in the various news beats as a reporter. The Reporter must be familiar or have a working understanding of broadcast technologies, from computers, audio and video equipment to microwave and satellite transmission equipment. The Reporter must also have knowledge and know-how on writing content online.

A Broad Range of Knowledge: Great writers have a broad educational background, a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from to help make their writing more interesting and engaging.

• A graduate of a four-year college degree, preferably in journalism, broadcast communication or related field. Excellent knowledge of current events and relevant history.
• Possesses solid experience in the field of news gathering, reporting, and news analysis up to presentation of news stories.
• Skilled in story telling, especially in capturing complex situations and telling these in simple terms for the audience to understand.
• Good and relevant news sense.
• Able to maintain solid network of sources.
• Good leadership and people skills; able to motivate, mentor and develop team members.
• Good organizational and analytical skills.
• Quick, flexible and adaptable, especially in the face of breaking news and special news coverage.
• Able to make credible and sound editorial judgments.
• Excellent in both English and Filipino written and oral communication.
• Able to effectively deal with people from all levels in the organization and the audience.
• Able to effectively manage stress, not only of self but also of team.
• Willing to work on extended shits, including weekends, holidays and overnight.
