Coal Handling Supervisor  

Mission to Function:

The Coal Handling Plant Shift Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of the Plant’s coal-handling operations during an assigned shift, following established work procedures as well as equipment, safety, and environmental parameters to ensure a reliable and stable supply of specified coal for the Plant’s boiler operations. This position’s area of responsibility also covers the supervision and coordination of sand/limestone-handling and ash- handling operations to ensure the safe and efficient loading/unloading, and transport/transfer of these materials as well as the proper disposal of combustion by-products from pollution control devices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plans, coordinates, and maintains work schedules and assignments of subordinates to ensure efficient coal-handling operations. Implements production requirements and evaluates current production estimates vs. targets as basis for planning and scheduling.

• Oversees work of subordinates to ensure that all plant equipment and machinery as well as the plant premises within the area of responsibility are properly operated, checked, monitored, maintained, and cleaned according to standard operating procedures.

• Observes proper procedures for shift turn-over between outgoing and incoming Shift Engineers to ensure smooth turn-over of responsibilities.

• Maintains, reviews, verifies, analyzes, evaluates reports and log sheet data on actual condition and status of coal, ash, and sandstone/limestone operations for information and appropriate action.

• Determines the cause of any deviation from standard operating values observed in MMC or on-site and takes immediate corrective measures through appropriate operations personnel to restore operations stability.

• Schedules and oversees minor repairs and routine maintenance of equipment and machineries to avoid disruption of plant operations.

• Schedules the loading of coal to silos, the loading of sand/limestone for boiler operations, and the unloading of ash from pollution control devices with concerned Plant personnel.

• Monitors work performance of subordinates, prepares and submits performance appraisal reports to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and recommends training as needed.

• Prepares and submits reportorial requirements on status and progress of Coal Plant operations for management information and decision-making.

• Ensures continuous compliance to environmental criteria to prevent adverse effects to Plant personnel and the environment.

• Must be a Licensed Mechanical/Electrical Engineer
• With at least 3 years experience in Coal Handling Plant Operations, 1 year of which is as Supervisor
• Has technical knowledge in Coal Handling Plant Operations and Maintenance
• Ability to interpret and analyze data and make recommendations to management.
• Has Leadership, Supervision, and Interpersonal Skills
• Proficient in MS Applications
