The events and content company behind innovative learning experiences like DigiCon and Southeast Asia’s first and only end-to-end recruitment solutions provider come together for  ‘a different kind of job fair’ that showcases specialized jobs and talents in today’s digital economy

Last July 20th, employers met with professionals in search of new career opportunities and career growth at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City for the first ever CareerCon – a job fair that showcases specialized jobs and talents in today’s digital economy. Organized by Future Proof PH and Kalibrr, the event was created to redefine how to hold a job or career fair.

As mentioned by Future Proof PH General Manager Trish Elamparo Esteban during her opening remarks at the event- “Traditional job fairs have been transactional in nature, where employers and job-seekers simply come together to exchange CVs. We aim for Career Con to be different by being a platform for discovery of top talent. This is not only for ‘job seekers’ who are currently unemployed, but also for ‘growth seekers’ who want to further define their career paths.”

A Conference Centered on True Career Growth

Catering to growth seekers was most embodied by the conference, the highlight of the CareerCon event. Be it the entrepreneurs who left top positions at multinational companies to establish their own ventures, data scientists, and even a philanthropist, as well as a young CIO turned author, all speakers enthusiastically took to the CareerCon stage to share their experiences and expertise, providing insights beneficial to both employers and employees alike.

Starting off the conference was Kalibrr’s own Co-Founder and CEO, Paul Rivera, who talked about how one can turn a job into a full-pledge career. He was followed by Katapult Digital Corp. CEO Albet Buddahim, who for his part, detailed tips about how to successfully navigate a non-linear career path.

As technology was also among the underlying themes of this year’s CareerCon, establishing a career in this digital era (and beyond) was also among the event’s big discussions. Evident Communications CEO and Founder Cecile Dominguez-Yujuico spoke of how to leverage the constant changes to eventually prepare for jobs or careers that have yet to be created in the present, while SCALE Founder and CEO Carla Mumar touched on how to remain relevant within the modern workforce.

During the afternoon sessions, the tomorrow of work was further elaborated on, first by  Cardinal Digital Founder and CEO Natalie Nguyen, who spoke on how professionals can “Silicon Valley” their careers, and Machine Ventures Founder and CEO Shahab Shabibi, who in turn shared insight on the gig economy and how professionals can best secure their futures by treating themselves, not just their employers, as businesses. Rina Guzman, CX Asia Pacific Program & In-Country Transformation Advisory Leader of CISCO, closed out the conference portion of CareerCon by aptly talking about how to future proof careers.

Data continues to be a significant aspect of the continued advances in tech, and as more careers in the field continue to emerge, Data Analyst Antonio Yamzon and Senior Digital & Research Executive Mari Arambulo, both from Cobena Business Analytics & Strategy, also made presentations at CareerCon. They discussed the intricacies of the data science profession, and why a digital career is one to consider.

Meaningful Opportunities from Significant Employer- Sponsors

Redefining what a career fair can’t be done without having an actual career fair. So a number of notable sponsors showcased their jobs at CareerCon, talking with delegates to not only interview them regarding opportunities available, but also providing career advice and having detailed discussion about professional paths in their respective industries.

These were done both via the sponsors’ designated booths and through the event’s Career Mixer, which is a speed networking activity for employers and candidates that allows for a more casual and exploratory conversation compared to the typical job interview.

Among the notable event sponsors who also showcased their jobs at CareerCon were

Platinum Sponsor: JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Gold Sponsors: Accenture in the Philippines, AXA Philippines, Tier One Entertainment, Republic Cement, AB Heineken Philippines

Silver Sponsors: Sprout Solutions, The Bloc, Tile Express Shop, Samsung, Synergy88, ALVEO Ayala Land, Purpose Driven Career Management, TRAINOCATE, Food panda, STARTEK Philippines, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (Phils) Inc., and Sagisag PH

CareerCon was also held in cooperation with media partners SparkUp, Rappler, Philippine Star and INQUIRER.net; and organizational partner User Experience Philippines (UXPH).
