Given the transactional nature of almost all businesses, and the need to fund operations and invest in continued growth, organizations employ professionals who can help ensure that all of their finances are in order. Then, there are also companies who employ such experts because their businesses are also rooted in the financial industry– where they operate as investors, monetary consultants, or accounting firms, among others.
Granted, finance-related roles can be hectic and pressure-packed– it involves money after all, and one can only imagine the year-end deadlines trying to be met by financial professionals right in the thick of the holiday season– but as mentioned, finance is a necessity in every business, which all but guaranteeing there are continued growth opportunities for qualified professionals.
If you’ve been considering a move to finance, or are already in the industry and are looking to take another step in your career, the following are opportunities that may be worth your consideration.
If you happen to be an accounting graduate with the necessary Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Tax Supervisor or Tax Specialist is one of the common job opportunities available. While a job typical of a CPA, the opportunity of working as a tax supervisor lies within how it is often a fixture in almost all companies, including those that are a widely recognizable brand.
So if you’ve always thought of using your taxation expertise in companies such as fashion and retail company Uniqlo or Philippine multi-media giant ABS-CBN, then their Tax Supervisor or Specialist roles are opportunities you might want to look at applying to before the year ends.
Speaking of having earned a CPA license, there are of course Accountant opportunities that are also worth looking into. While in the past CPA roles were more common in accounting firms or traditional corporate set-ups, the opportunities have now also included emerging start-ups as well being able to do so as a consultant or on a per-project basis.
Among notable young companies presently in need of a Certified Public Accountant are all-natural and organic products retailer Healthy Options, and Australian-graphic-design tool website firm Canva, a true indication of the diversity of opportunities for CPAs.
Given the attention to detail needed in finance and accounting, as well as the significant amounts of money involved, companies often employ entire teams or departments to fulfill different finance roles. One of these is Collections, or those tasked with collecting payments from individuals or entities on behalf of the company or the company’s clients.
As Collection professionals can range from a handful to a couple of dozen between, there are opportunities for those with extensive skills and experience in the field to eventually move their career forward and manage an entire team. Collection Team Leader roles are common in financial companies, such as RUP Financing Corporation in Pasig.
Commonly responsible for ensuring an organization's financial statements are free of material misstatements caused by either fraud or error, Auditors are another key part of a company’s financial team, be it as an internal member or hired externally. If you are a duly licensed Auditor, you have an opportunity to work in both private firms and government organizations.
On the other hand, some companies do not necessarily require a certified auditor, as long one has experience specializing in finance, auditing, and/or taxation. Like other finance roles, auditor opportunities have grown to include tech startups, where one can choose to work in a more typical setting like a bank, or in a company like Zen Rooms.
Speaking of tech companies, Analyst roles have also become more prominent as a result of the continued advancement of tech and increased availability of data. This has allowed professionals to have an opportunity to establish a career in finance, even without finance degrees or accounting licenses commonly required (although still preferred).
Financial Analyst roles also provide professionals the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and take on opportunities beyond their locales. Companies such as Accenture and Microsourcing, known to have offices and clientele in other countries, are just a few of the major multi-national employers presently hiring Financial Analysts.
