4 things to do on Leave the Office Early Day
June 2, 2015
No, this is not a joke. Started in 2004 by productivity consultant Laura Stack, Leave the Office Early day was meant to give employees a different way to look at time and productivity. Stack advocates that people don't need to go overtime just to perform well. Longer hours doesn't necessarily mean more work done. If you've ever spent more than 10 hours in the office, you'll know that spending too much time in the office can actually be counterproductive. In Stack's website, she states that the average American worker wastes two hours a day just being spaced out. How many Filipino office workers do the same? While not an official Philippine holiday, maybe you can practice Leave the Office Early day with the help of an understanding boss and game co-workers. Here's a list of suggestions you can do on June 2 this year, and every year from now on once you step out of that office a few hours earlier. Go on a food trip Being at work until 5 or 6 in the evening means you have to skip the lovely Filipino habit of meryenda, especially if it's a busy day. On this holiday, not only enjoy your meryenda, but have it outside in the breezy sunshine. If you're in the Diliman area, you can try out these places in the University of the Philippines. From mango-graham shakes to summer favorite iskrambol, beat the heat with these refreshments without breaking bank. Work out Working out is one of the best ways to can de-stress. If you work in the Ortigas Center, you check out these places and take your pick. Within a few minutes walk from each other, you can do yoga, pole dance, box, or dance. In Makati CBD, don't worry - you have the same options but in even more places. Wherever you find yourself on Leave the Office Early day, get in a little sweat session while the sun's still out. Pursue your passions We all wish we had more time for our hobbies, be it learning to play a new instrument or writing the next great novel. Earning a living doesn't have to get in the way of our personal projects. Since you get to leave early today, why not start now? Treat your self If you don't have anything lined up, you can always pamper yourself. There are many ways you can do this: go to a spa, go to the salon, go shopping. The city is your playground! Take the afternoon for some well-deserved me-time on June 2nd. Not quite the long holiday we all want, but one day to leave early is more than we can expect on a weekly basis. Enjoy Leave the Office Early day if you can!
